Good afternoon ladies!
Following the special conference call last week, we were fortunate to be able to spend a little extra time together.
On behalf of our leadership team, and especially our frontline staff, I wish to offer our sincere thanks to all of you who have put time, talent and dedication to work for everyone’s safety. Our staff was very proud to show off the new gowns – please see and feel tree to share this cute thank you video that we posted on Social media on Saturday: https://shrinershospitalsforchildrencanada.sharefile.com/d-sdc11664d0c84878a
I also wish to thank you for all the wonderful photos you sent in, we will be working on another post and will also put them up on our hospital screens to let the staff know who their guardian angels are. For the ladies making masks, we have not forgotten about you! As soon as we get a little more material in you will see your
Points we discussed during the call:
- The need for 75 additional protection gowns to get us to 400 (The LOSNA ladies have confirmed that they would take this on!)
- The need for surgical protection gowns (80 in two lots of 40). We have confirmation on the material and are working on sourcing it. We should be able to confirm pattern and all the additional information by next week.
- The need for masks – this will be an ongoing need. (Thank you to additional Daughters of the Nile Temples who have jumped in and those who are continuing to produce them).
If you wish to produce masks, please let me know so that I may send you the surgical backing that replaces the polypropylene in this video pattern:
Mask pattern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkrxgiXyaGo
If you cannot find the rounded elastic, you can go to a soft and pliable ¼ inch or even better 1/8th of an inch. If it is the ¼ or 1/8th inch, we ask that you make two sizes, 6.5 inch for S/M (use white part of the backing) and 10 inches for L/XL (use blue part backing) and mark the size on the bottom right corner of the mask. It is OK to make more blue than white as it is easier to shorten an elastic to adjust. Elastics do not need to be white, black or other colors is fine, we understand that it is not easy to source. If you do not have access to elastics, ribbon or shoelaces sewn at the top and bottom of each side of the mask do the trick!
For the front, please use a dense cotton blend, feel free to be as colorful and fun as you want; our staff is loving your creativity!
For the nose, if you cannot find the nose bridge, think of plastic wrapped gardening or electrical material and you can also use pipe cleaner, but it must be folded over at least 3 times, 4 is best.
Please continue to send photos! Thank you so much for your positive energy!
Be well and stay safe!
